Each state has specific regulations. ATs are responsible for knowing if they need to register, get a license or neither. The BOC offers a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bocatc.org\/state-regulation-map\/\">state regulation map<\/a> that shows, state by state, whether an AT needs a license, certification, registration or none of the above. ATs will also find links to important information when they click on their respective state.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8991 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/bocatc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/states.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bocatc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/states.webp 800w, https:\/\/bocatc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/states-300x164.webp 300w, https:\/\/bocatc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/states-768x420.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\">ATs can request official verification of their certification for state regulation purposes online:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Step 1: Log into <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bocatc.org\/BOC360\">BOC profile<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Step 2: Select &#8220;Request Official Verification&#8221; from the black menu on the left<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Step 3: Follow prompts to pay the $25 processing fee and submit the request to the state or employer<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\">The certification verification is immediately sent via secure email to the state or employer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\">49 states and the District of Columbia require that ATs must be legally recognized by the appropriate state regulatory agency prior to practicing. Failure to receive authorization from the state they are practicing in is a violation of Code 3.2 of the &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bocatc.org\/athletic-trainers\/maintain-certification\/standards-of-professional-practice\/standards-of-professional-practice\">BOC Standards of Professional Practice<\/a><span class=\"normaltextrun\">&#8221; and may result in disciplinary action against the individual&#8217;s certification. It should also be noted that passing the BOC exam does not guarantee the ability to obtain a license to practice, and ATs should carefully review their individual states&#8217; laws.
