The Cultural Literacy Competence Assessment Module (CAM) is available to all Athletic Trainers (ATs) as a continuing education option focuses on applied use of IDEAS concepts such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social determinants of health and their influence on patient-centered care<\/li>\n<li>Importance of cultural sensitivity in establishing and empowering the patient-clinician relationship<\/li>\n<li>Identifying perceptions on cultural competence, health disparities and bias<\/li>\n<li>Techniques to deliver culturally competent clinical practice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CAMs provide meaningful learning in evolving areas of athletic training practice. Participating in the CAMs offers the ideal way for Athletic Trainers to identify areas of need for self-actualized learning. CAMs are also expected to increase the current foundation of knowledge, enhance clinical practice and improve patient care.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jeremy Marra MS, ATC, CSCS, CES (he\/him), Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Advocacy Strategies (IDEAS) Committee member, as well as BOC Board of Directors Athletic Trainer Director Appointee, the Cultural Literacy CAM can support every AT, no matter their background or practice setting. &#8220;This assessment tool allows the AT to take a step back and consider concepts they may otherwise not incorporate into daily practice. Each of us brings our own background and biases to the table. These biases are not inherently negative but need to be evaluated to promote both competent and patient centered care.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Cultural Literacy CAM, This CAM, as well as other CE options through BOC, are available through our <a href=\"https:\/\/bocatc.org\/athletic-trainer-life-cycle\/#st12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>. You can earn 3.75 Category A continuing education units with this program, at a cost of $35.<\/p>\n<p>These options can support your certification maintenance as you continue to work to meet the requirement completion deadline of Dec. 31, 2023.
