Let\u2019s shine a light on the often misunderstood Category D. Category D<\/a> programs are non-BOC Approved Provider Programs. This category requires completion of professional programs sponsored by groups other than BOC Approved Providers with educational content at or above entry-level and focused within the domains identified in the \u201cPractice Analysis, 8th Edition<\/a>\u201d (PA8). Continuing education (CE)programs must be intended for credentialed health care providers and wellness professionals. Category D has a maximum of 28 continuing education units (CEUs) if 50 CEUs due; 14 CEU maximum if 25 CEUs due.<\/p>\n

Category D programs can be synchronous or asynchronous and delivered in a variety of methods (i.e.,webinars, conferences, seminars, podcasts, multi-media, grand rounds, journal clubs, employee in-services (excludes orientation), lunch and learns. CE credit is also earned in this category for viewing educational multimedia that requires a completion exam (e.g. videos, DVDs, audiotapes, webinars). Surgery observation may also be earned as CE credit; this activity needs to have educational components with objectives that can be outlined in a letter of verification from the physician. One CEU is awarded for each contact hour, so one hour of learning will earn one CEU.<\/p>\n
